How do you play?

Move through the maze, collect the keys you need and reach the gold monogram. Jump over low obstacles, use spells against creatures and watch your health and mana in the corner.

  • Move: WASD or the arrow keys. Hold Shift to walk. Use the mouse wheel to zoom.
  • Jump: Space. Cast your selected spell: F. Strike with your relic: E. Switch spells: Q cycles through unlocked spells; 1–9 and 0 select them directly. You can also click the spell selector.
  • Map: M or tap the small map, when available. Pause: P or Escape. Restart the level: R.
  • On a phone: turn it sideways. Use the joystick to move and the Jump and Cast buttons to act. If you wear a relic, a third button appears for its blow. Tap the spell selector to change powers. Pinch to zoom; the pause menu lets you move the joystick to the other side.
  • Hints: close the level introduction with its × button. If you find Ariadne’s thread, collect it, then press H or tap the spool button to reveal the route briefly. You can use it once in that run.
  • Sound: every footstep, blow, spell and creature has its own sound, and so does the weather. The speaker button turns it all off, and the audio panel has a slider each for the music and the effects.

Where do you get spells?

Open Spells in the game’s main menu or pause menu to see your collection, select a spell and check what unlocks next. During play, the selector beside Cast shows the same nine spells.

There is no spell purchase or checkout. Ember is available from the start. The others unlock automatically as you collect gold cubes. Finish the level to save its cube count. Replaying a level adds only the extra cubes beyond your previous best, so collecting the same cubes again does not increase the total.

Spells unlock automatically. Your cubes are not spent.

Gold cubes appear from level 1. Each level has a randomly chosen total within these ranges:

  • Levels 1–20: 2–5 gold cubes.
  • Levels 21–50: 4–7 gold cubes.
  • Levels 51–100: 5–10 gold cubes.

The count and locations stay the same when you replay a level. Look down side corridors; some cubes also lie on the way to the exit. Finish the level to keep what you collect.

Casting uses mana, and each attack has a cooldown before you can use it again. Mana recovers while your shield is off. The shield is yours from the start and is not one of the nine spells: on a keyboard, press C to raise it and again to lower it; on a touch screen, tap the Shield button. It costs 11 mana a second while it is up, and it cuts every blow it meets by 85% for a little more mana. Frost and Roots can briefly stop ordinary creatures, giving you time to move away.

A relic from the Wardrobe is a weapon too, and it costs no mana. With the Hammer, press E or tap Strike: one heavy blow hits every creature in a wide arc in front of you, and the small ones fly. With the Storm Sigil, press E or tap Bolt: lightning strikes the nearest creature in reach, then jumps to up to two more close to it, weaker each time, and stuns them. You wait about a second between blows. Relics work in the mazes; the Storm Realm is spells only.

What changes as you progress?

The mazes grow from 5 × 5 cells to more than 30 × 30. Locked gates appear from level 11, sliding walls from level 16 and timed pressure plates from level 21. Creatures and low obstacles give you reasons to use your spells and jump.

Level 31 brings darkness and a lantern. From level 41, rolling marble balls block the corridors; from level 51, portals connect otherwise separated paths. Later levels combine these hazards, with three keys to find from level 81.

Does the weather change?

From level 30 the weather starts. Rain, a storm with lightning, snow, a strong wind and the odd spell of sunshine come and go over the platform. Every tenth level has a weather of its own: rain at 30, a gale at 40, a storm at 50, snow at 60, and so on up to a last storm at 100. The levels in between get one now and then, and more of them do the higher you climb.

Weather changes how the maze looks and how far you can see: rain and snow shorten your view, sunshine opens it. The wind is the one that touches play. A strong gust pushes you a little, and a small arrow beside your bars shows which way it blows. Walls still stop you. The daily labyrinth and the Storm Realm have no weather.

What opens after level 50?

Complete level 50 to open the Storm Realm from the game menu. This is a separate battle against the Storm Sovereign, in three phases. Each of his attacks shows a warning first: step out of the circles, jump the shockwave that crosses the floor (or stand behind a pillar, which stops it), jump the beam or hide behind a pillar, and keep away from the orbs. After a heavy attack he is left exposed, and your spells hit half as hard again. Twice in the fight, as his strength falls, he roars and cannot be hurt for a moment; the storm leaves a glow behind that gives you health back.

A verified victory while signed in earns a 10% project discount and the power to pass through walls. Press V or the Phase button to use it for three seconds, with a five-minute cooldown. Guests can practise the fight, but must sign in to earn the account reward. If your collected orbs already give a larger discount, you keep that larger amount; the two discounts do not add together.

What are levels 70 and 90?

Levels 70 and 90 are set pieces. Level 70, the Storm Acropolis, is a ruined temple platform under a storm that does not ease: a titan kneels at the far end, a ruined arch frames the heart of the maze, and a temple and a tower float in the clouds beyond the edge. Level 90, the Frozen Citadel, lies under the northern lights, with a god of ice on his throne, a frozen gate at the heart and islands of ice in the air.

Both have a wide terrace round the maze, which you can see but cannot walk on, and both open with a long flight round the platform. The maze itself plays like any other level, with its own keys, gates and creatures.

What can you buy with XP?

Open Wardrobe in the game menu to buy skins, relics, tunic colours, wreaths and golden sandals with earned XP. Choose an item, then confirm its price. Once you own it, equipping it again is free. Spending XP reduces your available balance without lowering your rank.

  • Undead: 6,500 XP. Golden: 11,000 XP. These complete looks include clothing and footwear. Choose Marble to use your tunic colours and sandals again.
  • Hammer: 4,500 XP. Storm Sigil: 8,000 XP. Equip one relic alongside your skin. In the mazes it is a weapon, as described above. After you leave the game, the website companion also occasionally strikes or casts lightning into the page, leaving a brief crack that repairs itself.
  • To stop the website effects, open chat, choose Chat options (⋯), then Pause character animation.

A level awards 100 XP plus 12 times its level number, a speed bonus of up to 50% of that base and 15 XP per gold cube. Finish within the target time for three stars, or within 1.5 times that time for two. Improving a level’s best score increases your total.

How does the daily challenge work?

Choose Daily labyrinth from the menu for a shared maze that changes at midnight Sofia time. The challenge grows through the week, adding darkness, moving walls, rolling marbles and portals. You can jump, but this mode has no combat, spells, wall pass, discount orbs or Minotaur.

Your first finish each day earns 300 XP. You can submit your best time to the daily leaderboard under a name you choose. Runs are checked before they appear, and published times stay on the board for 30 days.

How do you earn a project discount?

65 of the 100 levels hide a gold sphere with a beam of light above it. Sign in, collect the sphere and finish the level to earn 0.25% off a project with us. Collect all 65 for 16.25%. Your verified discount code appears in your account; include it when you contact us about a project.

From level 26, the Minotaur guards some spheres. Taking one wakes him. Reach the exit before he catches you, or you will restart the level: the sphere goes back to its hiding place and the creatures you defeated return. Closed gates stop him, and he cannot follow you through a portal.

Can you save and share your progress?

Guest progress stays in this browser on this device. Sign in with your email to save completed runs to your account and continue on another device. Account rewards count after the run has been verified.

After a level, use Share to send a challenge link or save a score card. The link opens the same maze for the next player. Read the privacy policy for details about saved progress and leaderboard entries.
